We can be happy that after two postponements of the rally date, the “Biorina Winter Rally Rokiškis 2025” will take place as planned on February 21 and 22. The recent and expected frosts will create the necessary layer of ice on the roads for the competition to take place. A sufficient layer of ice is necessary so that the roads on which the rally is held are not damaged and the spikes of the winter sports tires have something to cling to.
The first event of the Lithuanian Car Rally Sprint Championship, originally scheduled to take place at the end of January, was confronted with a harsh reality – the weather in winter is becoming increasingly difficult to predict and unsuitable for competitions. The neighboring countries – Latvia and Estonia, whose winter events are also postponed due to the lack of cold and frost. Only Finland and other Scandinavian countries are more relaxed on this issue. However, after the spring weather in the new year, the frost finally arrived raising hopes that the competitions would be held. Although there is not much snow in the region, this is not the most important feature. For a winter rally to take place, the road must be frozen and a layer of ice must form. This is necessary for two reasons. One is that sports cars in winter competitions use tires with extremely long spikes that must grip the ice to ensure maximum grip. The second reason is that the frost and the thick layer of ice prevent the sports cars with these studded tires from damaging the road, which would be extremely difficult to repair in winter.
There are currently 48 participants on the entry list, of which 25 crews are taking part in the Lithuanian Car Rally Sprint Championship. The remaining 23 crews are guests, including representatives from Poland and Estonia.
On February 21, the participants will take care of the administrative matters, the scrutineers will check the cars participating in the rally, and the special stages reece will take place. The actual race will begin on February 22, when the official starting ceremony for the first crew will be given at 11:30 a.m. in Rokiškis and half an hour later they will be at the start of the first special stage. The competition consists of eight special stages with a total length of 52 kilometers. An interesting detail is that if the date of the rally had not been changed, almost half of the rally would have taken place in the dark, but as the rally had been postponed by a whole month, the competitors will have plenty of daylight during the race. After the end of the competition, an official award ceremony will take place at 21:00 at Sąjūdis Square in Rokiškis.
We also remind you of the basic rules for safe competition observation: never stay outside a corner, do not approach areas marked with “danger zone” signs, always stay behind fences, STOP lanes or other barriers, do not sit down in a place you cannot leave quickly and do not walk around the stage during the competition.
During the “Biorina Winter Rally Rokiškis”, wristbands (tickets) can be purchased at the entrances to the special stages and from 14.02.2025 at 15:00 at the Rokiškis Town Hall (Rally Center)
